Sculptra™ has been commonly used in dissolvable stitches and soft tissue implants. A natural form of Poly-L-lactic acid is produced in our muscles during exercise. The material works to gradually produce increasing thickness of the skin. The material is biocompatible and can be dissolved by the body.

What is it used for?
Sculptra™ is a temporary collagen stimulator which allows significant but subtle and natural looking volume restoration of the mid and lower face. As we age the mid face in particular loses roundness and we develop cheek hollows, sagging, nasolabial lines and marionette lines. . It also helps to restore lost facial volume to give you a fuller, younger-looking face. The enhancement is long lasting and looks completely natural.
Are the results from Sculptra™ immediate?
No. At your first treatment visit, it may appear that Sculptra™ worked immediately because of swelling from the injections and the water used to dilute Sculptra™. In a few days, when the swelling goes down and the water is absorbed by your body, you may look as you did before your treatment. Sculptra™ takes time to gradually correct the depression in your skin. Doctor will see you again in a few weeks to decide if you need more Sculptra™ injections.
How many treatments are required?
Our specialist doctor will decide the appropriate number of treatment sessions and the amount of Sculptra™ you will need at each session. Patients with severe facial fat loss may require 3 to 6 treatment sessions.
What is the final like and how long does it last?
The final result takes 6 -10 months to achieve. You would expect this as collagen synthesis takes time to develop. That said, women and men in their 30s-40s who have this treatment report visible results within a much shorter space of time, some even after the first treatment. Most patients - those in their 50s - would need to have the second treatment before visible results occur. It lasts up to 2 years and smaller top-ups can maintain the effect thereafter.
The Sculptra™ Treatment Procedure
The Sculptra™ procedure is performed in a doctor's office. Patients may experience minimal discomfort from the needle injection. The procedure can take about 30 minutes. Patients return home within minutes after the procedure.
- Step One: The doctor may select injection points for each area to be treated and apply numbing cream on.
- Step Two: The treated area will be identified and marked.
- Step Three: The Sculptra™ which has been mixed with local anesthetic is then injected beneath the skin, under the dermis and subcutis layer.
- Step Four: The doctor will then massage the treated areas in order to distribute the Sculptra™ evenly.
As your aftercare instructions will explain, for optimum effects massage the treated area twice daily for one month after the treatment.
Recovery after Sculptra™
Normal activities can be resumed immediately; however, patients are advised to stay out of the strong sun. Touchup treatments may be required up to six times every six weeks to achieve an optimal result Complications and Risks of Sculptra™.
The most common side effects of Sculptra™ include tenderness, redness, bruising and discomfort at the injection points, which can last up to 2-7 days. Your doctor should explain the possible complications and the remedies during your initial consultation.
